Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've never gotten a equus how do I tame it? I've been using carrots but I just get my ass kicked and bucked off

Troodie kibble have to wait for a prompted then press triangle

when you feed it a carrot, press triangle to mount the equus. Then when it begins to buck press triangle to feed it another carrot, repeat until tamed
