they store data for some games others they give diffferent items. in zelda you can get gear with most zelda-only ones

Do not buy Amiibos.
1) you will go nuts hunting down some which are very popular.
2) it will never stop.
3) borderline OCD for sets which will lead severe sleep depravity and madness.
