Is my ram not installed correctly? Would this cause a performance issue? Board is an MSI z270 gaming m7. I could have sworn the manual had told me to install this way originally but it looks like they should be in offset slots not right next to each other. Thanks

Whatever your mobo guide says. If it is suggesting use aline slots then use them. They maybe connected that way. Or else, try alternate slots and check performance again.

Ill swap into 2 and 4 just to try it, no harm i guess lol. How much of a performance issue could them being installed like this cause out of curiousity?

Something to do with dual channel memory. Usually you should have skipped slot if you are not using them all.
