After that small 180 megabyte update I haven't been able to connect to my own server! Any tips an tricks for a host to get past the join failed.

An admin and I both played on my server last night. Was not aware of any update after Friday's patch.

I believe the instructions state to reset Xbox unplug for at least 5 minutes.
This is how long it takes for all stored energy to dissipate.
Some people don't understand stored energy.
Have you tried this true hard reset?
I have had to do this many times when connecting to my dedi server when playing Ark.

Would using an Ethernet cable for the connecting help/solve issue or well it do nothing?

Try loading single player first

Quit the app go to your network setting press Go Offline for a couple minutes then go online and it should work. It worked for me it may take a few tries
