Windows defender is all you need, mostly don't be stupid, stream your porn, don't pirate games and that sketchy link that's clearly click bait, is probably something you should avoid.

Antivirus has to work in parallel with antimalware, each completes the other.
Best AV: Eset nod32 or Kaspersky
And take Malwarebytes as antimalware

Noone should ever rely solely on an A/v. Yes they're good as a first line of defense at runtime, and for scanning files etc. But really its about knowing what is running on your computer in the background, whats in the startup and services, keeping all your software updated etc. that matters. I personally don't use anything except windows defender and malware bytes. I prefer nod32 or Kaspersky If I have to.

Windows Defender and common sense. As a teenager I was reinstalling Windows (XP) every 6 months, even with AVG. I have not had a virus for as long as I can remember, and I've only downloaded two items of cracked software recently.

Honestly, the best free antivirus is windows defender and you not being an idiot. I've not used an antivirus, other than defender, in... 3 years? Hasn't been an issue for me. Keep your windows 10 up to date and it will take care of itself.

Make sure you don't have two running at once. But windows defender is fine. Just don't be a dumbass. **hint - don't download sketchy .exe
