Ok, I need some help guys. It's a long story, but a dear friend passed away suddenly and have an HP Spectre 360 laptop with tons of family videos and files on it that his wife would like to get but we don't know the password to his laptop. I was able to get Hiren's on a USB stick, but even if I disable UEFI and secure boot etc... the laptop won't boot from USB. Can anyone help? I can't seem to find anything via Googling.

Install new windows on it but save the old installation. your files will be in C:/windows.old

AND / OR - if I take out the M.2 drive with the files on it, will they be protected or anything if I put them in a USB3.0 to M.2 enclosure?

you just have to remove the drive from the laptop and hook it up to a desktop youll be able to access it without formating it

If the drive isnt encrypted, just pop it out and put into another computer.

Or, you could most likely use chgtnpw (free) to reset / blank the password

Do him a favor and clear his browsing history once you get in.
