Needing help.
Got this setup from a friend. Motherboard, cpu and psu.
Mobo - MSI g31m3 v2
Cpu - core 2 duo or dual core, I dont remember.
Psu - iso 450w
I added dd2 ram from an optiplex and a small hdd. Im not getting any display but all the fans are spinning and the harddrive is doing what it does. I have tried reseating the ram, one stick at a time in each slot and so on. Reset the CMOS too. I know the ram and harddrives arent the issue as they work in the optiplex.

Any possible solutions would be appreciated.

Either a problem with the monitor or the cable. Check the connections on each end of the cable and make sure the cable is not bent.

Cables are all fine. They are used on the optiplex.

Same goes for the monitor.

Then it could be a mobo problem but seems really strange

Could be a bad cpu

reset cmos and bios COMPLETELY. Remove power cable and take out cmos battery and swap the jumper, power on like that, shut off and put everything back. The system doesn't want to recognize your RAM with its current settings.

Could also be the version of BIOS they have doesn't support the CPU...

Ryan Goodall has a valid point that no one has touched on.

Has it posted with that CPU before?

*Older hardware wasn't always as "plug-n-play" as we are use to these days.

Yes the cpu and mobo were used together before he gave it to me.

Has to be ram issue then, or dead cpu/mobo.

This is why I am stumped. Ive tried everything I know of. Only conclusion I could have is that the vga port on the board is jacked. But then I would get "no signal". But the monitor just runs through sources. (As I have said, not a monitor issue)

Could be incompatible ram speeds with that board too
