It is a good way to gauge how you are playing compared to the people you play against. As long as you understand that the rank it gives you is just a percentile of the people who play that character and not what rank you should be at, you'll be fine. Read the faq in the app so you fully understand what it is showing you and how to interpret it.
As far as the actual numbers go they are correct.

I like overbuff as well, but I use both. Normalizing your stats per death really helps you think about dying. Being dead is the least helpful thing you can do.
