I'm trying to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 10 on my laptop but struggling to get past this stage. Does anyone know what I need to do?

place a large neodymium magnet right next to the location where the hard drive goes. that will solve the problems

Is Windows 10 the only partition on your hdd? If so, you need to go into disk management on 10 and shrink that partition down. Depending on how you'll use Ubuntu, go the gigs you want x 1024 for the size to shrink. You should have blank unformatted space. Then try again and let it make it's own partition

dont you need to make a new partition ? you need it to be in a different format.
