Honestly, where do you guys stand on this? Is 32gb of RAM just overkill or nah?

For productivity no. For gaming yes. I have 16gb of 3000MHz DDR4 and even running a 1080 Ti at 4k with TONS of background processes open I never see above 12gb system usage total. 16gb is the new 8gb.

The processor was more powerful than the ram i could get on mb using q6600 lga775 16gb was max ram and i used to run out all the time

Depends on what you are doing. But at the current prices I think it is. Prices have doubled since I bought my ram
