I'd use modern parts and a Windows xp virtual machine

I tried using a VM but it didn't always work as planned. To save space I just dusted off my old netbook that has winXP on it. I paid $40 for it a while back and I can plug it in to a montior if I need a bigger screen. It works for my old skool gaming needs :)

oh, and check out Phil's Computer Lab on youtube if you want to do an actual full build. That's guy's videos are full of great information on old skool builds using modern parts.
