Depends on what you are using them for. If you want general lighting in your base the omni is better. If you want to light a specific area like where you would be defending an entry point into your base the lamp post is better. I built in a cave and have the turret walls lined with lamp post towards the entrance. Omni creates a lot of glare on metal. Lamp posts aim the light exactly where you want it.
