We always did 2 or 3 sets of narcotic traps to fill it's torpor faster. Then hit it with tranq arrows to finish it off. Lost a lot of bears on prim+ lol.

For bears with primitive weapons. Use basic xbow as fast as you can until you see blood, then basic bow every 7 seconds

You have to space your arrows really well to have any chance of them not dying. Otherwise use darts.

As a tip if you hit them with trans while caged you can kill something close by and feed it then it will constantly regain health
