This is exactly why I dual boot and use VMs with Ubuntu (and kali linux) so I have access to all of the linux-based open source programs, and access to Windows for convenience and gaming.

You want to buy Office 2016. Not Office 365. Office 365 is the browser and cloud based subscription. Office 2016 is the one time purchase downloadable applications.

You cant 'just' keep it,, as you said its a subscription... If you want to keep somethign for the lifespan of the product, get Office 2016.

I still use my Microsoft Office 2010 Profesional Plus pay for 549 $ in 2010 but worth it, still, use after 7 years and all working fine. Even now best of all, none of free soft can fully replace it.

Just make sure you untick GL mode. It wants to use your hardware acceleration.
