Not a stupid question entirely. You're legit curious and want to learn.

DDR5 isn't released yet and may not release for a while as DDR4 is still strong enough for users' needs currently. So 16GB DDR4 is automatically where you'd go, and for that matter if DDR5 were released it would be wise to go for 16GB of that too anyways.
