Restart and open bios if you not getting proper cooling your temps should read out there

sounds like a RAM issue to me though. Try removing a stick maybe a bad module

Reset the bios it'll reset the RAM's Latency then reinstall the thermal compound then reseat the HSF properly. I had that issue before

thermal issues are usually just an immediate shutdown though and not freezing right? ram is a likely issue unless its windows or a driver possibly freezing the system. i know we are always quick to think its hardware but software could be an issue as well.

Note - the pc would just switch off instead of freezing. I changed the setting to stop this to hopefully get a BSOD to diagnose issue. Don't know if that is relevant
