I upgrade when intel releases a better cpu.

But how often you should? Once you find a cpu bottleneck (To high CPU usage compared to gpu usage)

Thanks everyone I have upgraded my computer I am asking as there no way I could afford a new CPU every year or every two years

Every 3 years but this time it will take me a little longer (My current pc will have to do till 2020 so that will be 4 years)

I would say depending on your CPU if it's say 4 years old you don't need to. If it's about 6-8 maybe you should only if you notice a performance hitch which is bothering you. The only upgrade you really should focus on in terms of gaming it RAM first then your graphics card.
