Hogwarts Legacy: How to Sell Gear

Players in Hogwarts Legacy begin with a standard student attire in the hues of their chosen house. Although Hogwarts Legacy doesn't begin with much inspiration, players will eventually have access to more outfits and accessories, some of which will change their attack, health, and defense stats. In the game, players can prepare a enough amount of Hogwarts Legacy Boosting Service.

There may be some clothing accessories that players don't like, in which case players can indeed sell their items for Galleons. However, items cannot be sold from the menu; the player must talk to certain NPCs to do so.

Update 05/08/2023: Where and how to sell gear in Hogwarts Legacy remains one of the most frequently asked questions from players, especially those starting out. So we've slightly updated this post to give readers the latest answers on how to do it (and whether they should). People who play on previous generation consoles (PS4/Xbox One) can use this guide to learn all there is to know about selling gear.

How to Sell Gear in Hogwarts Legacy

Shortly after completing the first few lessons of Hogwarts Legacy, players will have to head to Hogsmeade for the first time to pick up some supplies with their classmates.

There are many different shops and stores to explore in town, but players should talk to Thomas Brown at the Tomes and Scrolls store; here, players can get rid of unwanted gear in exchange for Galleons. Of course, Hogsmeade also has other shopkeepers selling wares, so if you want more options, be sure to explore.

However, the sale value of gear does not change between different suppliers, so it doesn't matter who the player sells the item to.

Should you sell gear?

For players wondering if gear can be destroyed or sold in Hogwarts Legacy, it should be fine. Fortunately, players can change the appearance of any type of gear in the main menu by hovering over an item and pressing Square (PS4/PS5).

Hogwarts Legacy players can change appearance to match any previously owned gear, even if the player has successfully destroyed or sold it. This means players will have access to all skins even without the aforementioned gear in their inventory. There are ways to increase inventory space in Hogwarts Legacy, but before players gain this ability, they may need to make some room in their pockets. For more game guides, please visit
