Hey guys, I have a NAS with 6 HDD with SHR-2, now I know if I put them in my PC I'll probably need to re-format them using raid 6 or similar. However I'm wondering if the raid controller on the mobo is good enough, or if I should buy a separate raid card (and what are the benefits/differences). Also what raid setup should I run. I want redundancy and had SHR-2 (Synology's version of Raid 6 with accommodation for different sized drives), so I would like something similar. I have 4 x 4 TB, and 2 x 6TB, so I'd rather not lose the excess 4TB. Got a little off track, main question is raid card or mobo, and why. Thanks.
