I was just wondering if anyone can give and advice on taming the onyc?

Bug repellant and raw mutton. Ghillie as well if you're nervous. Try not to have things that will agro to you and don't spend too much time close to it when youre passive taming it or else it might agro

Try trapping it in a small pen.

A 2 by 2 usually works nice with a Dino gate and doorways all around

Are you guys using traps to tame spiders and centipedes too?

You can to make it easier but with the bug spray you should be able to walk around them no problem. The only issue you may run into not using a trap is while following it to passive tame you may wander near something not so friendly

Yea the only problem is other Dino's attacking you or the thing you're taming engaging in a fight.
So it's best and safer if you make traps
