It's never too early to teach a young child how to game. Had a neighbor kid learning how to play at the age of 7. The older they get, the more they will get into other games. If I had a child of my own, I'd let them try something simple that doesn't require a whole lot of button mashing like Mario Kart 8 or Splatoon 2.
