Do some googling, attempt to get into the system restore menu outside of windows.

Had a problem with my Acer like this. Turns out they tried to update my bios with a pushed windows update. My laptop was basically bricked. Had to send it in for service, but I'm almost certain all they did was reflash the latest bios and ship it back to me. I might try finding that procedure for your machine and try that if the update hangup persists.
