So I see that ARK says I can play 2 player so does that mean I can play on the same console with two controllers? Or does it mean I can play with another person on a different Xbox?

Another question is how would it be achieved and can it be on single player or host dedicated server? Pretty confusing on how it's done and like everything else there's no tutorial provided!

It can be two player on same console... only if you're playing local and not on a server. The 2nd player just hits the start button and they can create a character. Also that 2nd player is tethered to you by about 200 meters so they can go exploring too far from ya or they either get pushed by an invisible wall to you or instant teleported

You can also do non dedicated multiplayer with different consoles but again your friends would be tethered and not be able to go more than 200 meters away.
