If you want good performance but not necessarily gaming, get an i5 processor. I have a 2 core i3 and it's gets the job done albeit very slowly usually. Haven't tried ryzen yet but 1300x looks interesting and is cheap for a modern processor

Get a Ryzen 3 or 5 with a GTX 1050. Don’t go for intel, right now they’re overpriced and dug themselves a hole. i5 and i3 processors have been rendered obsolete by Ryzen.
