Is it worth it switching from a DDR3-based system to a DDR4? I've been considering it since I wanted to get a new motherboard for my PC, but it seems like there's not much to offer that's compatible with my current system, as I already have an ASRock z97 Extreme 6, which I've noticed is really the best anyone seems to have.
I know a motherboard doesn't effect system performance as much as one would think, but does the cross-over to a new platform produce tangible enough gains to justify the money, or would I really only be seeing improvements in efficiency, rather than performance?
Current Specs for reference:
-Motherboard: AsRock z97 Extreme 6
-CPU: i7 4790K
-GPU: GTX 1080 FTW
-RAM: 16GB GSkill
-Power Supply: EVGA 750 Supernova
